Attorney Internet Marketing

By Arnold Hernandez

Internet marketing has been around for a while and among experienced internet marketers it is old news, but mainstream businesses are only just starting to understand the significance of internet marketing. The pioneers of internet marketing, may have looked like fools when they first invested heavily on internet marketing, and some surely were fools. Many dot coms went under as the alleged different business model that noone understood failed miserably, but some did more than survive and succeeded.

The business environment has changed and not too many fools rush out to throw away their money into novel internet ideas, but what is evident is that businesses need to have an internet presence. A website is not and should be the core of any existing business, but should be a part of every single business. A business that fails to acknowledge the importance of having a website presence is destined to go out of business. Eventually it is likely that we will move into a business environment where consumers will expect that every business and public service will have a website that provides services through a website. We are not there, but the signs that we are heading in that direction are.

We normally do not think of law firms as businesses, but attorneys that are self employed realize very quickly that they are a business. Law firms are not different from any other business. It is true that law firms have restrictions on what marketing activities they are permitted to engage in, but they are not much different from other businesses. All law firms need to be profitable and need to have a website to conduct business as other businesses do. It may not necessarily have to be a competitive website ranking on the top three pages. A website can be treated as a brochure. A brochure that describes the law firm and the law firms legal services. Consumers and buyers of legal services expect this and want this. If the law firm fails to meet consumer needs, then consumers will think less of the law firm and it will reflect on the bottom line.

Most law firms probably think about law firm SEO and law firm marketing when they think of law firm websites. It is true that attorney marketing is done by means of a website, and it may be true that law firms only think that the purpose of a website is to use it for attorney internet marketing, but the function of a law firm website is not just for attorney marketing. A law firm needs to have a website for other reasons and needs to recognize that a website serves many other purposes and not just attorney internet marketing. Attorney internet marketing should be a part of every law firm, but the website is not entirely for that purpose, it should be an integral part of the entire marketing strategy and marketing process of any law firm. Among other things a website is much like a receptionists, it is the first contact with the public, and if the public does not like your first impression, they are going elsewhere.

A website tells a prospective client what the firm is about. It tells the consumer if this firm is shallow and superficial or if the firm has a lot of substance. The pictures, the graphics, and the content tell the client what the law firm is all about. The type of prospective client a website will attract will be directed related to which audience it appeals to. A law firm should analyze the website closely and look at what it says and what type of client it appeals too. Anyone familiar with attorney internet marketing will also know that a firm cannot possibly appeal to all people and if you attempt such an appeal, you will appeal to no one.

Chinese authorities say they are preparing to launch a crackdown on melamine-laced milk after the scandal over tainted products, which made hundreds of thousands of children ill two years ago and damaged China’s brand reputation overseas, resurfaced.

China has dispatched inspectors to sixteen provinces to urge local governments to thoroughly investigate cases concerning food safety.

The decision comes after milk products tainted with the industrial chemical melamine were removed from sale in Shanghai and the provinces of Shaanxi, Shandong, Liaoning and Hebei, the state-run Xinhua News Agency said.

Open source game developer Perttu Ahola talks about Minetest with Wikinews

Tuesday, June 30, 2020

Recently, Finnish open-source video game developer Perttu Ahola discussed Minetest, his “longest ever project”, with Wikinews.

Started in October 2010, Minetest was an attempt by Ahola to create a sandbox game similar to Minecraft. Minecraft is a multi-platform commercial game, which was in alpha version when Ahola challenged himself to create something similar to it from scratch, he told Wikinews.

Minetest is an open-source game, which is free for anyone to download and play. It is written in the C++ programming language, and the source code is available on code-hosting site GitHub. According to Ahola, Minetest attempts to run on older hardware, with limited graphics, but to be accessible to more people: those who have outdated technology, and making it available for no cost. Minecraft, on the other hand, is a paid game, currently costing USD 26.95 for its computer version. Minecraft is currently owned by Microsoft, and performs poorly on older hardware.

A correspondent from French Wikinews contacted Perttu Ahola via Internet Relay Chat a few weeks ago, discussing Minecraft. This interview is built on top of the previous interview, as we take a deeper dive into knowing more about this free game which is about to turn ten years old in a few months.

Ukrainian tow boat ‘Chelyabinsk’ collides with bridge at Baja, Hungary

Wednesday, March 17, 2021

On Monday, Ukrainian towboat “Chelyabinsk” ((uk))Ukrainian language: ??????????? ran its barge caravan into a bridge pillar on the river Danube at Baja, Hungary. The caravan broke up, but it continued its way downstream later that day. According to multiple sources, no casualties were reported.

The caravan consisted of six grain barges pushed by Chelyabinsk, a towboat of the Ukrainian Danube Shipping Company. Its downstream route crossed the rail-road bridge at Baja over the Danube at about marker 1480.

The caravan moved too far left from the navigable passage and hit a pillar of the bridge around 12:54 CET (1154 UTC) while trying to turn right. Gyula Szabó, a nautical expert interviewed by TV2, attributed the event to pilot error. An eyewitness told TV2 heavy winds were a contributing factor.

The caravan broke up after the collision. Boats anchored at Baja caught the barges. A police inspection found no leaks on them and the re-assembled caravan left the scene the same day.

Talking to RTL Klub, another helmsman, Dávid Peth?, pointed out this section is hard to navigate through with this kind of setup: “[This was] a caravan of about 200 meters in length [and] 33 meters in width with a mass, together with its cargo, of about 10 thousand metric tonnes. Keeping in mind that the horizontal clearance [under] the Baja bridge averages at only 60 metres, this is very large and very bulky.” Peth? also told RTL Klub this bridge-crossing manoeuvre starts three kilometres upstream from the bridge, with no room for error.

No significant damage was reported on the bridge, and cross-river traffic did not halt. The police categorised the case as an administrative offence.

Aluminum Z Channel—Al To Z

bytimothyharvard

Aluminum channel is widely used in manufacturing, commercial and residential applications where strength and resistance to corrosion are important. Additionally, it can be machined and welded, adding to its versatility and popularity in many industries.

Two aluminum alloys, 6063 and 6061, lend themselves specifically to aluminum channel extrusion. Aluminum channel fabricated with sharp, right-angled corners inside and outside is typically made with the 6063 alloy, and these channels—also known as Aluminum Association channels—are often the choice for architectural applications. Aluminum Association Standard channels, on the other hand, are often supplied in 6061 alloy, do not have distinct right angles, and are preferred for structural use.

Aluminum Alloy 6061 versus Aluminum Alloy 6063

6061 aluminum is the most commonly used aluminum alloy. The properties of 6061 that distinguish it from 6063 are its superior strength, heat treatability and ability to undergo machining and welding with greater ease than its 6063 counterpart. 6061 may be anodized, which results in an additional layer of protection for finished components.

6063, also called architectural aluminum, has a smooth surface finish already, thereby minimizing production finishing. 6063 is slightly more corrosion resistant than 6061 and is often preferred where strength is not the over-riding specification and where cosmetic appearance is critical.

There are a number of profiles which can be made from the different alloys of aluminum C channels, hat channels, U channels, slide track channels nut channels and slide track channels—to name few. The aluminum Z channel is also commonly used in various applications.

Uses of Aluminum Z Channel

Also known as Z-bar, Zee and Purlin, aluminum Z channel is widely represented in many manufacturing efforts:

* Architectural trim * Displays * Cabinets * Storage bins * Enclosures * Garage doors * Support * Metal furniture * Reinforcements * Fencing * Metal buildings * Stiffeners for PVC window and door frames * Slides and tracks * Framing * Store fixtures

Besides the 6061 and 6063 alloys, which are usually “stock,” aluminum Z channel may also be manufactured from another alloy whose properties may be a better fit for a particular project. Because there are many factors to consider when deciding on the alloy to use, it is best to consult an industry expert to ensure that the alloy from which the Z channel is made will support the project’s engineering requirements and desired aesthetics.

Ethics debate surrounds surgery to stunt disabled girl’s growth

Friday, January 5, 2007

An ethical controversy has surged in the United States and elsewhere around nine-year-old Ashley X (her family name has not been released). The disabled girl was operated upon at the request of her parents, to prevent her from growing, menstruating and developing breasts. The parents, who wish to remain anonymous, explain their situation on a blog entitled The “Ashley Treatment”. There have been over 1000 reactions on the blog so far.

Ashley suffers a condition termed static encephalopathy with marked global developmental deficits of unknown etiology, which means brain damage of unknown cause leading to a kind of static condition. She can make sounds, move her arms and kick her legs, but she cannot change her position, eat, walk, talk etc. Many of these children are in poor health and die young, but Ashley is in good health. For all of these functions she depends on her caregivers. Most of the day she passes watching her surrounding, lying on a pillow. Her parents call her their “Pillow Angel”, “since she is so sweet and stays right where we place her—usually on a pillow.”

Quote

Ashley can continue to delight in being held in our arms and will be moved and taken on trips more frequently and will have more exposure to activities and social gatherings.

-Ashley’s Mom and Dad

Ashley’s parents want to keep her at home and care for her themselves, and they want to guarantee their daughter’s quality of life. To this end, they say, Ashley underwent several surgical procedures and medical treatments during a period of three years. To attenuate her growth, Ashley was given high doses of the hormone estrogen. Ashley now measures 4ft 5 (1m 35cm) and weighs around 75 lbs (34 kg), which is below her expected length and weight. Her low body weight and size would improve her comfort, and at the same time facilitate the work of her caregivers.

Surgery to remove her uterus (a procedure called a hysterectomy) and breast buds were performed, so Ashley does not menstruate and will not develop breasts, both of which parents think only would cause her discomfort. Since high estrogen levels can cause menstrual bleeding and breast development, the surgery was also meant to limit these effects. She also underwent surgery to remove her appendix, because it would be difficult to diagnose appendicitis given Ashley’s low communication possibilities.

‘Each makes the other more difficult to recover from’: University of Sussex professor L. Alan Winters speaks to Wikinews on trade, COVID-19, Brexit

Wednesday, June 30, 2021

Earlier this month, Wikinews spoke with University of Sussex professor of economics L. Alan Winters regarding the decision of the United Kingdom to leave the European Union (EU) in the 2016 Brexit referendum and the subsequent negotiations leading up to and following the EU–UK Trade and Cooperation Agreement of December, which he has researched extensively. In a call, a Wikinews correspondent spoke with Professor Winters about recent developments in UK trade policy to learn more about his observations.

Winters is professor of economics at the University of Sussex, as well as founding director and fellow of the UK Trade Policy Observatory (UKTPO). His career spans over 15 years, including as chief economist at the Department for International Development, director of the Development Research Group of the World Bank, CEO of the Migrating Out of Poverty Research Programme Consortium and advisor for the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development, the Commonwealth Secretariat, the European Commission, the European Parliament, the United Nations Conference on Trade and Development, the World Trade Organization and the Inter-American Development Bank.

Three reports where Winters is listed as an author were used as reference during the interview: “COVID-19 will reinforce the Brexit shock”, “The Costs of Brexit” and “Taking stock of the new UK-EU Trade and Cooperation Agreement: governance, state subsidies and the level playing field”.

Winters was awarded the title “Companion of the Most Honourable Order of the Bath”, styled C.B., on June 16, 2012 as part of the 2012 Birthday Honours.

Iranian news agency reproduces The Onion article

Saturday, September 29, 2012

The Fars News Agency (FNA), an Iranian news agency, yesterday reported an article from US satirical news website The Onion as fact. The article reports “a Gallup poll” suggesting “the overwhelming majority of rural white Americans” would prefer to vote for Mahmoud Ahmadinejad, the President of Iran, as opposed to US President Barack Obama. The Onion article reports “77 percent of rural Caucasian voters” saying they would prefer to drink beer with Ahmadinejad or attend a baseball game with him.

Fictional West Virginia resident Dale Swiderski is reported by the Chicago, Illinois based website saying about Ahmadinejad: “I like him better”. ‘Swiderski’ is also quoted as saying the Iranian President “takes national defense seriously, and he’d never let some gay protesters tell him how to run his country like Obama does.”

In Iran, homosexuality is a criminal offence which can carry a penalty of incarceration or capital punishment. Just over five years ago, when he participated in a debate at Columbia University in New York, New York, Ahmadinejad stated “In Iran we don’t have homosexuals like in your country”.

The FNA copied The Onion’s article verbatim and in its entirety, excluding part of a sentence saying Ahmadinejad was “a man who has repeatedly denied the Holocaust and has had numerous political prisoners executed”. However, the Iranian news service did not attribute The Onion as its source.

The FNA’s error has made international headlines, including in the United States, Canada, United Kingdom, Australia and India.

A link to the FNA article page redirects to an error message which reads: “Error For Your Request. Not Exist This Story.” [sic] However, The Onion included a link to a screenshot of the FNA’s page on their original article, accompanied by a message telling readers to “visit our Iranian subsidiary organization” for more information on the story.

There are no reports of the article being republished in Persian. The FNA has yet to comment on the incident. However, The Onion’s editor Will Tracy humourously remarked their website “freely shares content with Fars and commends the journalists at Iran’s Finest News Source on their superb reportage”.

This is not the first time The Onion has caused the mistaken belief of their material being accurate. In a November 2007 interview with Wikinews, The Onion’s Editorial Manager Chet Clem recounted an incident in which the Beijing Evening News reproduced a story from The Onion created in 2002, copied entirely verbatim, headlined “Congress threatens to leave DC unless new capitol is built”. When the error was highlighted to the Chinese newspaper, Clem said “their response was not to print a correction, but just to say that some newspapers in America make money by printing lies.” In a separate incident, Christians forwarded a story on the Internet from The Onion saying children were converting to Satanism as a result of reading the Harry Potter book series.

BBC News Online also reported an instance of two newspapers in Bangladesh apologising over their publication of an article disputing the validity of the moon landings, originally written by The Onion.

Effective Marketing Strategies Tips On How To Take Your Product To The Market

By Annabelle Lehoux

So you’ve started your own business or created an innovative product that you would like to share. You suddenly find yourself wondering what’s next? This is where marketing your product comes in. Marketing, an effective marketing at that, is an essential tool in promoting and expanding your business. Its essence lies on your understanding of your prospective and present customers’ needs and establishing a plan to meet those needs. Careful planning and research will definitely help you to efficiently market your product. Here are some useful strategies and tips on how to market your product to the market.

–Develop your Own Sales Plan

Spend time to establish a strategic plan on how to sell your product. The first thing you need to have in mind is your target market. When selling something for the first time, you need to focus on a distinct niche so you can effectively carry out your plan. Will you start selling a particular product to women alone, men alone or children perhaps? By narrowing your market, you get to learn your prospective buyers’ needs and make it your focal point in selling your product. The more specific you are about your target market, the more you will be able to achieve your business goal.

–Establish Customer Trust and Confidence

Show your buyers that your business and your products can be trusted. You can offer written guarantees of satisfactions or warranties. You can also join established organizations which are focused on business-oriented activities so your customers will see that you are a trust-worthy company. If you are marketing your products online, create a customer testimonial or blog page so that other buyers will see the benefits of doing business with your company. You should be able to project an image of expertise, quality, reliability and exceptional customer service. Show your customers why they should keep doing business with you. Meet deadlines and provide solutions for your customers’ possible predicaments regarding your products.

–Use Pricing as an Effective Marketing Strategy

Price your products and services competitively by doing constant research regarding your competitors’ pricing strategies. If possible, add discounts or coupons to your own strategy. For example, when you sell self defense products online such as a stun gun, create lifetime warranties for them. Sell them at discounted prices without compromising their good quality and let your buyers know that. Free shipping is also an effective way of boosting your sales. However, don’t go overboard with selling your product at low prices too often. Your customers will eventually anticipate for discounted offers that you’ll be forced to undermine your whole pricing strategy.

When marketing your product, you need to be creative and patient at the same time. Do it one step at a time. It takes careful preparation and research to be able to effectively carry out you business plan. Map out your strategies carefully so you’ll know who your target market will be and how you can possibly meet up their expectations. By doing this, you will be able to expand your business and reach your target goals in no time.

Eleven children injured in Scottish school shooting; two teenagers detained

Thursday, February 24, 2011

Two individuals are in custody after eleven secondary school students were injured in a firearms incident near a school Auchinleck Academy, in East Ayrshire, Scotland, yesterday afternoon. Police have said they are carrying out “extensive enquiries” into the incident, which reportedly involved an air gun or BB gun.

I wasn’t really frightened at first but I’m quite shaken now as I know what damage has been done.

One pupil said he was walking near the school during the lunch hour and “saw two people behind a hedge.” There was a sound “like a small explosion,” he said. “I wasn’t really frightened at first but I’m quite shaken now as I know what damage has been done.”

Strathclyde Police said officers were attending an incident near the secondary school, which has approximately 950 students. Chief Superintendent John Thompson, who is leading the police inquiry into the incident, confirmed two people, aged 15 and 18, were detained in the area of the incident, in which eleven youths were injured.

“Subsequent inquiries directed us towards a house in Auchinleck where we have detained an 18-year-old male and a 15-year-old male,” Thompson said. “Both of those individuals are being interviewed at present and our inquiries are ongoing.” He appealed for people in the area of the incident to contact police.

East Ayrshire council stated “[t]he school responded immediately, informing the police and parents of the children involved, and sought appropriate medical attention”, and added officials were supporting pupils. Auchinleck Academy has not replied to a request for a comment from Wikinews.
