Does Higher Education Cope Up With Todays Market Requirement

The question from these two frameworks is whether a higher education institution is properly equipped and structured to develop 21st century skills embedded in these two frameworks.

Universities and colleges need to review their structure including curriculum, learning environment and assessment system.

In addition to 21st century skills, student profiles are also changing. Learners have integrated digital tools in almost everything they do.

The tools learners use proficiently in their daily lives have been reshaping their learning styles and habits.

Thus, learners begin entering college with a different mindset from generations before them.

  1. Multi-processing refers to the ability to multitask,
  2. Navigating information and understanding screens and images in addition to text literacy,
  3. Constantly discovering new things while browsing digital libraries,
  4. Study in place.

Today’s learners are surrounded by computers (desktops, laptops, and tablets), mobile devices (smart phones) and by the applications installed on them.

These technologies and applications are shaping the way learners think and behave. Learners today are more willing than ever to create online learning communities and take an active role in them. Nehru college chairman p krishnadas is the chairman & managing trustee of college of applied science.

learning in the digital age is as social as it is for today’s learners.

For them, learning is a concrete concept rather than an abstraction and it is interwoven with discovery and reasoning.

Digital platforms are not only where they access social information and resources, but also platforms for learning through the building of social knowledge.

In this regard, learners are both consumers and producers of information. However, concerns in some respects have also been raised.

For example, experts are concerned that learners are not aware of the ethical and legal consequences of their actions and lectures online.

Furthermore, concludes that the students most easily distracted and bored are the most proficient in digital tools.

Also, the ability of learners to masterful use of digital tools and environments may not necessarily translate into the ability to use them for their educational purposes.

The key question here is whether these students are not skilled at using digital tools and platforms for educational purposes or if they are not simply given the opportunity to learn by using these tools in their educational process.

It is certain that today’s traditional teaching methods do not appeal to the learners.

Another change in the learner profile in digital age higher education is the increased diversity of learners.

Today, more and more individuals choose to take an additional university degree or go back to study for a certificate, graduate degree or online course due to the professional requirement because of the skills they acquired first This is simply not enough to perform the tasks at work.

Furthermore, enhanced learner mobility allows individuals from different cultures and ethnic groups to meet in an educational setting. Nehru college chairman p krishnadas is the chairman of nehru college of engineering

All of these new dynamics point out that learners with different demographics such as age, experience, culture and ethnicity, style and pace of learning bring their distinctive traits to the lips. This creates new learning potentials and challenges for the learning environment.

In summary, higher education institutions are facing serious learner challenges in the digital age.

The skills and knowledge students need to acquire in university are changing and evolving into the so-called 21st century skills.

In addition, digital tools and platforms are reshaping the way learners think and behave today, and they begin to study in higher education institutions with different skill sets from generations. before. However, another challenge is that student profiles change as learner mobility increases and learners return to higher education.

With its current structure and functions, higher education institutions are having difficulty in meeting the needs and requirements of today’s learner profiles.

Schools are advised to develop policies and practices relevant to the development of digitally connected technologies that support learners’ abilities in the digital age, focusing on the skills of the century. 21 to review diverse learner profiles.

  1. Instructor

Advances in digital connection technology in the 21st century put another pressure to change in the roles and responsibilities of higher education faculty. The role of the instructor / instructor in the changing educational landscape.

Decades ago, when instructors were the only provider of information and knowledge, now paving the way for an age where information and knowledge distributed on almost entirely accessible digital networks. anytime and anywhere if there is a connection.

This means that learners now have the opportunity to access information and knowledge not only at school through instructors, or at the library through printed books but also from digital archives, websites, and media. social media and online communities and learning networks.

In short, learners in the digital age have access to a variety of online resources and knowledge specialists through online social connections.

However, the role of the instructor in today’s higher education structures is that of the informant. All of this implies that not only the sources of information and knowledge, but the content is also very diverse. Nehru college chairman p krishnadas is the chairman of nehru institute of technology.

Learners are exposed to information that is sometimes contrary to information presented by instructors.

As a result, the information provided by the instructor is constantly being questioned, and the role of providing information is insufficient in the digital age.

For these reasons, the instructors’ role needs to be restructured, shifting from information that provides’ sage on stage ‘to’ guide on the side ‘.

The role of the instructor should be as a learning designer, context and resource provider, and as a facilitator to develop higher-level skills.

While performing newly assigned roles, instructors are asked to take advantage of special innovations of the digital age such as social media, open educational resources, online open courses. mass, complex learning management systems, big data, analytical learning and adaptive learning.

Therefore, one of the basic roles of the instructor must be a learning engineer who designs an effective and engaging learning environment that addresses 21st century learners’ skills and characteristics through the use of digital innovations.

However, this role is not that of a technician writing source code and solving technical problems but rather that of an intellectual that provides the learner with a personalized learning context and quality assurance and performance price.

To be able to effectively fulfill this role, the instructor needs to develop new skill sets in the digital age.

– Century knowledge and skills,

– Balancing direct teaching strategies with project-oriented teaching methods,

Applying the knowledge of child and youth development to the preparation of educators and education policy,

Utilize a variety of assessment strategies to evaluate student performance and differentiate instruction (including but not limited to, portfolio-based, training methods, embedded in the chapter course and synthesis), Nehru group chairman p krishnadas is the chairman of nehru institute of technology.

– Actively participate in learning communities; harness expertise in a school or district through coaching, mentoring, knowledge sharing and group instruction,

– Acting as mentors and coaches at the same level as fellow educators,

Using a variety of strategies (such as formative assessment) to reach diverse students and create environments that support differentiated teaching and learning,

– Pursue continuous learning opportunities and consider long-term career learning as a professional ethics.

In short, the role and qualifications of the instructor are changing alongside that of the learner because of the leading role of digital connectivity technologies in the 21st century.

The major change in the role of the instructor is the transition from “informant” to “learning facilitator”.

This paradigm shift requires the instructor to leave his high seat and sit next to the learner himself and develop new skills.

What higher education institutions need to do in this context is to take the necessary steps to determine the role an instructor needs to perform and the skills they need to develop and act on to support the person. guide as they perform these new roles.

However, the current structure of colleges and universities does not support these new roles and skills because research-based evaluation schemes are unlikely to allow the transition from “teaching” to “facilitate learning”.

  1. Learning environment

Current emerging insights into how learning happens needs to be addressed before addressing how digital innovations are shaping the learning environment and related changes observed in the school environment. internship in the digital age.

Training scientists are observing a shift from traditional learning through information acquisition models to collaborative knowledge-building models in the digital age.

In this era, along with the change of pedagogy, informal learning plays an important role in the formation of individual learning activities.

For this reason, the development of collective cultural practices along with both the organizational and physical structures to support collaborative knowledge building becomes especially important for educational institutions.

On the other hand, colleges and universities are currently having difficulty in providing the necessary organizational structure and material for such activities.

emphasize the mismatch between the current technological and pedagogical innovations and the current structure of universities and colleges.

According to them, in order to recognize the desired changes in the learning environment, the following technology-based reforms should be considered;

  • The transition from standardized learning to personalized learning: The fact that each and every individual must learn the same content in the same way and time is contradictory to the nature of human learning when it comes to learning. to individual differences.

On the other hand, one of the biggest advantages that today’s digital offers is personalization as these innovations allow to define learning styles, interests and accurately identify challenges and difficulties. that each individual is encountering through academic analysis and big data collected throughout the education process.

This way, it is possible to make informed decisions and apply the necessary changes to a custom designed deep learning experience.

In short, leveraging the capabilities offered by these technologies allows the design of adaptive learning environments that are sensitive to individual learning.

  • Moving from standardized assessment to specialization: standardized learning assessed through standardized assessment using a multiple-choice test implies that learners need to learn the same content.

However, this has not been successful in realizing 21st century skills. Digital technologies help identify learner trends and provide personalized assessment tools.

  • Transforming from a knowledge model in memory to a knowledge model in external resources: according to the traditional model, learning means internalizing without consulting external resources.

Therefore, the learners’ ability to recall information without consulting the book, computer or website is assessed.

However, in everyday and professional life, individuals have to solve problems, access external sources of information and perform a number of tasks.

The ability to effectively and efficiently access and use external resources is critical for them to be effective in their social and professional lives in the digital age.

  • Moving from content inclusion model to knowledge discovery model: in the traditional school model, the main goal is to convey all the information learners will need after graduation.

The curriculum is becoming more and more stressful and the textbook is much thicker with an increasing treasure of knowledge.

It is almost impossible to cover all the information and knowledge that students will need in the future during their time at school due to the exponentially increasing amount of information and knowledge.

Therefore, learners need to develop skills such as access to authentic, up-to-date information and how to learn.

Switch from learning through learning to learning by doing: Traditional learning models require learners to acquire specific information, concepts, processes, theories, and formulas.

On the other hand, digital tools help learners perform meaningful tasks based on practice.

For this reason, these technologies allow the creation of learning environments that match a learning-by-work paradigm.

The pedagogical changes triggered by the aforementioned digital innovations require the transition from a one-way learning space (classroom, library, lab) to a multi-dimensional collaborative learning space ( physical, virtual and online). Nehru college chairman p krishnadas is the chairman of nehru college of engineering and research center.

For an immersive and meaningful learning experience in the digital age, the creation of blended learning environments that include digital-social participation plans utilizes the affordability of Digital, mobile, virtual, online, social, and physical space.

Research shows that learners develop better learning outcomes when they are exposed to a combined learning environment compared to a single learning space.

It is predicted that we will see more hybrid learning environments supported by online collaboration tools, personalized learning support software, sophisticated learning management systems. with social learning apps, online games and simulation, and social media apps.

We need to create learning environments that integrate the integration of physical, virtual, online and digital spaces and take full advantage of the affordability of each of these spaces, aware of the free features fees for designing meaningful and profound learning experiences without the constraints of time or place.

In the opinion of experts, there is also a need to develop an understanding of which platforms are more effective in supporting the type of learning through which types of content and activities, so that supply policies and strategies can be developed. Information for reforms that reflect structural and organizational changes in higher education.

US House of Representatives passes ‘clean energy bill’

Saturday, June 27, 2009

On Friday, the United States House of Representatives passed House Resolution 2998, better known as the American Clean Energy and Security Act of 2009, following days of debate. The final vote was 219–212, with only 8 Republicans voting for the legislation, and 44 Democrats voting against it. The resolution addresses the “greenhouse effect,” and calls for a 17% reduction of greenhouse gas emissions by 2020, and an 83% reduction by 2050. In addition, the legislation will establish new requirements for utilities, and various incentives for “going green.”

The resolution was sponsored by Representative Henry Waxman of California, and Representative Edward Markey of Massachusetts. At 3:09 a.m. (EDT) on Friday morning, a 341 page amendment was added to the resolution. In an attempted filibuster, House Minority Leader John Boehner read the majority of the added amendment, and stated that “…when you file a 300-page amendment at 3:09 a.m., the American people have a right to know what’s in this bill.”

Reactions to the legislation have been mixed, with opponents and advocates speaking out. The President of the Union of Concerned Scientists, Kevin Knobloch, said that the Union was “thrilled that Congress has finally caught up with science and the American people in recognizing the need to switch on clean energy.” A report by the The Heritage Foundation, a conservative think tank, stated that the legislation would “damage the economy and hobble growth.”

Most House Republicans opposed the bill for going too far in its regulation, with GOP chairman Mike Pence saying that “raising the cost of energy is a bad idea in prosperous times.” Democrat Dennis Kucinich, on the other hand, opposed the bill for not going far enough, calling it an “illusion” that “locks us into a framework that will fail.” Kucinich pointed out that the bill gives subsidies to coal, which is not a clean source of fuel, and includes greenhouse gas emitters such as trash incinerators under its definition of “renewable energy.”

Bank of America leads Consumer Financial Protection Bureau complaints about mortgages

Thursday, October 3, 2013

A review this week by Wikinews of US Consumer Financial Protection Bureau (CFPB) complaints about mortgages in the United States shows Bank of America leads all lending institutions in complaints.

Since mortgages complaints were recorded in December 2011, 77,622 total have been added to CFPB’s database. 29.2% of these complaints involved Bank of America, with the second most received by Wells Fargo, accounting for 15.5% of all complaints. JPMorgan Chase ranked third by volume of complaints with 9.8%. Ocwen was fourth with 8.7% and Citibank was fifth with 4.8%. Nationstar Mortgage; Green Tree Servicing, LLC; HSBC; PNC Bank; U.S. Bancorp; OneWest Bank; SunTrust Bank; Flagstar Bank; and Select Portfolio Servicing, Inc. each had between 1.0 and 3.8% of total complaints. The remaining 14.4% of all complaints about consumer mortgages were divided between about 530 other lending institutions.

The Motley Fool reported last month that for the past fiscal quarter, the biggest US based mortgage lenders were from first to fifth Wells Fargo, JPMorgan Chase, Bank of America, Quicken Loans and U.S. Bancorp.

According to the US Federal Reserve, debt for family residences stands at US$10.706 trillion for the second quarter of 2013. As of the end of June of this year, Bank of America is the United States’s second largest commercial bank with US$1.343 trillion in domestic assets. Wells Fargo is the fourth largest commercial bank with US$1.251 trillion in domestic assets. JPMorgan Chase is the largest US commercial bank with US$1.329 trillion in domestic assets and US$1.947 trillion in total assets.

The mortgage complaints in the CFPB report include several subproducts. Conventional fixed mortgages account for 27.1% of all complaints. Conventional adjustable mortgages account for 10.0%. FHA mortgages account for 7.7% of all complaints. Home equity loans or lines of credit account for 3.8% of all complaints. VA mortgages are 1.4% of all complaints. Second mortgages and reverse mortgages each account for 0.6% of complaints. The remaining 48.7% of complaints are about other mortgages or other mortgage issues. A few years ago, FHA loans accounted for about 10% of all US mortgages while VA loans accounted for about 3%. Prime loans accounted for over 75% of the market and the rest were subprime mortgages.

California leads all states by volume of complaints with 14768. It is followed by Florida, New York, Georgia and Texas. When complaints are divided by a state’s total population, New Hampshire leads. The state is followed by Washington D.C., Maryland, Georgia and Florida. Complaints do not correlate with national rankings for August’s foreclosure rate by state where Nevada topped the list, followed by Florida, Ohio, Maryland and Delaware.

Two zip codes account for over 1,000 total complaints between them. 565 complaints originated in the 48382 zip code, which is in Commerce Township, Michigan, located in suburban Detroit. 553 complaints originated in the 33071 zip code, in Coral Springs, Florida. According to real estate website Zillow, there are currently 1,033 properties in foreclosure in Coral Springs while Commerce Township only has 131 properties currently in foreclosure. Four other zip codes have 100 plus complaints originating from them. 91730, in Rancho Cucamonga, California, had 158 complaints. 33409, in West Palm Beach, Florida, had 132. 92626, in Costa Mesa, California, had 125 complaints. 92660, in Newport Beach, California, had 122 complaints. Respectively, the towns had 534, 1,068, 153, and 134 properties currently in foreclosure. These numbers are higher than for the cities of a few sampled zip codes where there was only one complaint, such as Gold Hill, Oregon which has 4 properties in foreclosure, and Decatur, Illinois which has 6 properties in foreclosure.

The CFPB categorizes complaints into six categories: “Loan modification, collection, foreclosure” or problems when a person is unable to pay; “Loan servicing, payments, escrow account” or problems with making a payment; “Application, originator, mortgage broker”; “Credit decision / Underwriting”; “Settlement process and costs”, and “Other”. The CFPB says the complaint types indicate consumers “appear to be driven by a desire to seek agreement with their companies on foreclosure alternatives. The complaints indicate that consumer confusion persists around the process and requirements for obtaining loan modifications and refinancing, especially regarding document submission timeframes, payment trial periods, allocation of payments, treatment of income in eligibility calculations, and credit bureau reporting during the evaluation period.” Currently, 59.6% of all complaints against lenders deal with being unable to pay. 25.1% deal with problems in making a payment. 7.0% have to do with the application process.

Of the complaint-heavy zip codes, for 48382 in Commerce Township, Michigan, 98.9% of all complaints have to deal with being unable to pay. Accounting for 23.4% of all mortgage complaints in Commerce Township, 132 of the complaints for being unable to pay were made regarding Bank of America, accounting for 97.8% or all but 3 complaints against them from the zip. 121 of the Bank of America responses in Commerce Township were closed with explanation and 12 were closed with non-monetary relief. 33071 in Coral Springs is different, with 537 of the 553 complaints being categorized under other. Only 11 complaints relate to foreclosure and issues with being able to pay. 92626 in Costa Mesa, where 32% of the mortgage complaints were about Bank of America and 26.4% were about Wells Fargo, had 93.6% of its complaints dealing with being unable to pay. 5 total complaints dealt with payment issues and 3 dealt with applications.

Beyond regional variance in complaint types lodged, the top five mortgage lenders by volume of complaints all had being unable to pay as their top complaint category, ranging between 55.8% for Citibank and 69.4% for Bank of America. Problems with payment accounted for the second largest area of complaints, with Ocwen having the largest percentage of complaints at 31.9% and Bank of America having the smallest at 18.8%. Foreclosure was the top area of complaints for a number of other lending institutions including 1st Alliance Lending, OneWest Bank, Ally Bank, Banco Popular de Puerto Rico, Bank of the West, BMO Harris, BOK Financial Corp, Caliber Home Loans, Inc, Capital One, Deutsche Bank and EverBank.

Nationally, complaints reached a high of 5,840 for January 2013, 1,107 more than the next highest month of April 2013. The total emerging for September is the second lowest since records were first kept in December 2011. On a state by state level, this pattern largely repeats with a major exception for Florida which saw a peak of 849 complaints in June 2012. Then, as now, Florida was one of the top five states in the nation in its foreclosure rate. The national January spike came as the Qualified Mortgage standard required by the The Dodd-Frank Wall Street Reform and Consumer Protection Act of 2010 came into play. It required mortgage lenders to take steps to insure borrowers could repay their mortgages.

Bank of America’s complaint volume follows the national trend, with a spike in January 2013 with 1,925 total complaints. Unlike nationally, the next month by volume of complaints was February of this year with 1,598 complaints. Prior to that, the highest month was May 2012 with 1,418 complaints. The lowest volume of complaints is September this year with 334.

Wells Fargo matched national trends for volume of complaints by month, with the exception of the current month being the lowest on record for number of complaints with 197 compared to the next lowest month, December 2011, when they had 221. JPMorgan’s complaint volume by month spiked in January and March of this year with 504 complaints. April of this year was the next highest month with 493 complaints, edging out May of last year with 488 complaints. September this year is on track to be the lowest month by complaint volume.

The federal government shutdown is unlikely to impact the current mortgage situation in the United States directly for most consumers, though mortgage processing by the Federal Housing Administration could be slower, resulting in fewer mortgages processed.

The baby in the womb of time, regardless of seasons, the 24 hours have stayed constant temperature of 37 degrees “small sauna ” in , so even if born in the summer , once the baby is also a lot colder . Newborn baby , because thermoregulatory mechanism is not yet fully adapted to the external environment , it should keep warm, especially premature babies , the accumulation of subcutaneous fat is not sufficient, it is even more important to keep warm . Personal clothing is naturally the first layer of defense to keep the baby ‘s body temperature .

South African prosecutors charge ANC leader Jacob Zuma with corruption

Saturday, December 29, 2007File:JacobZuma.jpg

Corruption-related charges have been brought against Jacob Zuma, the newly-elected leader of the African National Congress (ANC), according to his lawyer. A trial is scheduled to begin on August 14, 2008.

The charges stem from an arms deal with a French company, which is alleged to have involved bribes and fraud. Zuma’s financial adviser at the time, Schabir Shaik, was convicted in 2005 of attempting to solicit a bribe of US$72,500 per year from the arms company on Zuma’s behalf and was sentenced to 15 years in prison. Zuma was fired as deputy president in 2005 by South African President Thabo Mbeki due to the scandal.

Two-term ANC leader Mbeki recently lost an ANC leadership contest to Jacob Zuma, who garnered about 60 percent of delegate votes in his win.

Zuma had been charged with corruption in 2005, but the case was dismissed on procedural grounds. Michael Hulley, Zuma’s defence lawyer, indicated that they will strongly contest the new charges in court. Hulley also suggested that the South African government’s National Prosecuting Authority (NPA) and its anti-organised crime division known as The Scorpions, have carried out a smear campaign against Zuma.

“These charges will be vigorously defended, in the context of the belief that the Scorpions (NPA) have acted wrongly and with improper motive calculated to discredit Mr. Zuma and ensure that he play no leadership role in the political future of our country,” said Michael Hulley in a statement.

Given that the ANC has been the governing party in South Africa since the end of apartheid in 1994, it is likely that Jacob Zuma could become the next president after general elections in 2009. Zuma has said, however, that he would resign if he was found guilty by the courts.

Afghan women’s rights official shot dead

Tuesday, September 26, 2006

Safia Ahmed-jan, the director of the Afghan Ministry of Women’s Affairs for the Khandahar province and an advocate of women’s rights and a strong critic of the Taliban‘s repression of those rights, was shot dead by unidentified gunmen outside her home in Khandahar city in southern Afghanistan on Monday.

Safia Ama-jan, as she was known locally, is the first woman official to be targeted by the Taliban-led insurgency since it was deposed in 2001.

Safia Ahmed-jan taught at a girls’ school and was a high-school principal in Khandahar prior to the Taliban’s 1996 rise to power in Afghanistan. When the Taliban regime banned education for girls and forbade women from working outside the home, she ran an underground school for girls at her home, said her son Naqibullah, speaking to the Associated Press.

After the Taliban government was overthrown in 2001, Ahmed-jan became the provincial chief for women’s affairs in 2002, when the ministry was established and has since then held that position, worked for women’s rights and particularly, championed the cause of educating girls. Her secretary, Abdullah Khan told Associated Press that among her most successful projects were the vocational training schools she opened in Khandahar, where almost 1000 women were taught baking, tailoring and other skills.

Ahmed-jan has also been fiercely critical of the repression of women during the Taliban rule, in a region that has remained conservative and emerged as a hotbed of the Taliban’s insurgent activity. Her requests for personal security guards and transport went unheeded by the government, according to local media reports, though her nephew, Muhammad Asif told the New York Times that Ahmed-jan preferred to keep a low profile and used a taxi or public transport even though her office maintained cars and drivers.

Ahmed-jan was shot dead outside her house at about 7:30 a.m. local time (UTC+4:30) on Monday, as she left for work in a taxi. The gunmen are believed to have left scene on a motorcycle, and tyre marks have been found by the police, said the provincial governor Asadullah Khaled, who visited the scene of the attack.

Ahmed-jan was shot four times with a pistol, Muhammad Haidar, who worked in her office told the New York Times. Mohammad Nader, the head nurse at Khandahar’s main hospital where Ahmed-jan was taken to, confirmed to the Chicago Tribune that she was shot four times, including once in the head.

She was about 65 years old.

Accounts of the shooting are sketchy, several reports suggesting no one witnessed it. However, one man, identified as Allaudin told Al Jazeera that he saw two men on motorcycles waiting on the road, who attacked Ahmed-jan as she left her house.

A spokesman for the Khandahar governor, Daud Ahmadi confirmed the death and said that Ahmed-jan had died on the spot. An investigation into the attack has begun, and local officials have blamed the Taliban.

Hundreds of men and women, including the Governor Asadullah Khaled were present at Ahmed-jan’s funeral on Monday evening, which took place in Khandahar’s main Shia mosque.

The killing has been strongly condemned by the Afghan President Hamid Karzai as well as aid and human rights organisations in Afghanistan.

Aleem Siddique, a spokesman for the United Nations Assistance Mission in Afghanistan (UNAMA), said that UNAMA was “appalled at the senseless murder” of a woman who was working to ensure a full and equal part in the future of Afghanistan for its women. He added, “We share the sentiment of the majority of Afghan people who are appalled at this killing.”

Abdul Quadar Noorzai, head of the Afghan Independent Human Rights Commission (AIHRC) for the Khandahar region told IRIN News that Ahmed-jan’s death will have a “serious impact on women’s activities in the south where women are already suffering from … the deteriorating security and conservative traditions,”.

Fariba Ahmedi, a woman MP from Khandahar who was present at Ahmed-jan’s funeral told the Associated Press, “The enemy of Afghanistan killed her, but they should know it will not derail women from the path we are on. We will continue on our way,”.

Sonja Bachmann, a U.N. political officer who knew Ahmed-jan well told the New York Times that Ahmed-jan “did a good job, she worked in a very low-key way and worked hard to raise awareness about women’s issues.”

Reuters and Associated Press received phone calls, claiming responsibility for the attacks on behalf of Mullah Sadullah, a regional Taliban commander, but no confirmation of the claim has been possible.

Another caller, who identified himself as Taliban commander Mullah Hayat Khan told Al Jazeera that Ahmed-jan was killed because she worked for the government.

The Taliban-led insurgency has stepped up attacks in recent months, killing hundreds of people this year.

Last week, 19 Afghans working for reconstruction projects in the region were killed after their bus was ambushed. The Governor of Paktia province, a close associate of President Karzai, was killed in a suicide bombing on September 10.

Attacks on schools have also been stepped up. According to the Afghan education ministry, there have been 158 attacks on schools this year, compared to 146 last year. The attacks on schools are believed to be due partly to the Taliban’s opposition to educating girls, as well as a way to undermine the Afghan government and it’s reconstruction efforts.

Twelve suspected militants and two Afghan police officers were reported killed on Monday in separate incidents which also left eight others and a U.S. soldier wounded.

“People are scared, of course,” Ahmad-jan’s co-worker Haidar said, “How can we feel secure when the head of our department is killed in front of her house?”

Active Arrest Warrant Find Out About Your Warrants Before The Cops Come To Get You

By Steve Gee

Why were the police knocking on Anna Wallis’s door in the middle of the night?

Anna Wallis is an IT technician in a department store. She’s good at her job and she runs around all day long fighting with computer bugs and keeping the stock control database up to date. It’s a high pressure job but she loves it and wouldn’t have it any other way. Anna has never been in trouble with the police before so why did the cops come for her in the middle of the night? They knocked so hard that she thought they were going to break the door down.

You can get your identity stolen so very easily

Anna won’t remember this now but it happened more than 2 years earlier. She often takes her lunch into a nearby park to get away from the stress of the office for an hour and one day she left her purse on the bench where she sat to eat. Only a few minutes had past before she realized what she had done and went back for her purse right away.

She was so relieved to find that the purse was still there, exactly where she left it. A quick check of the contents revealed that nothing had been stolen so Anna was happy and felt very lucky to get her purse back. But what has this got to do with the police at her door 2 years later?

She didn’t know it but a thief had stolen Anna’s identity from her purse as it sat alone on that park bench. Her credit card numbers, her address, her drivers licence details and other information had been quickly copied and Anna never knew that it had happened. The thief took less than 3 minutes to steal Anna’s identity.

Has your identity double got you into trouble with the police?

You might expect that if someone steals your identity then they will use it to make some instant money. Go on a spending spree with your credit cards, rent a car in your name and take out a huge loan for you to pay back. This isn’t always the reason that a thief might want to steal your life.

In Anna’s case the thief had been saving her identity for a special occasion. Something more important than a quick spending spree. This thief had been planning a big robbery and had been arrested as she left the scene. Unfortunately the police had no real evidence to suggest that they had caught the right person. The thief was too good to be caught in the act or with the stolen goods on her so she was let free on bail.

The thief had used Anna’s identity when she was arrested. This was why she stole it from her in the first place, to use as a contingency plan. When the thief failed to return to court a bench warrant was issued for Anna, not the thief.

This story is made up. It never happened but it could happen and it could happen to you.

The cops can arrest you any time they want if you have a warrant for arrest

The police don’t have the time to go after everyone the moment that an arrest warrant is issued. Depending on the severity of the crime it could be months or even years before they get around to you. Very often they will just wait until they pull you in for something else like a speeding ticket or jumping a red light. They will do a check on you then and find the warrant.

Sooner or later they will catch up with you and if they have to they will search you out and knock on your door.

Don’t wait for the knock at the door. Find out about warrants for arrest now

Whether you committed the crime or not, when you get to court you will most likely be treated far more favorably if you give yourself up voluntarily instead of being dragged there by the police. But how do you deal with a warrant if you didn’t know that you have one in the first place?

Do regular background checks on yourself

It’s easy to do a regular background check on yourself using an online public records database. It can take less than 5 minutes to check yourself out and make sure that you don’t have any warrants or other problems that you need to deal with. By doing this you can stay one step ahead of the police and deal with arrest warrants before they become a major problem for you.

Sources close to both sides say NHL, NHLPA agree on Salary Cap structure

Thursday, June 9, 2005

The Globe and Mail (Toronto, ON), citing sources close to both sides in the dispute, reported Wednesday that the National Hockey League and the NHLPA have agreed to a salary cap structure, arguably the most contentious issue in the continuing lockout that led to the cancellation of the 2004-05 NHL season on 16 February, 2005.

The Globe and Mail is reporting that the deal, providing the “cost certainty” that the NHL has been seeking, will consist of a floating, team-by-team salary cap and floor based on a percentage of each team’s revenue projections. What is being reported as a six-year deal has a salary cap range of $34-36 million and a salary floor of $22-24 million, both hard caps. The new deal will also reportedly include the across-the-board 24% decrease in salary offered by the NHLPA in February. A dollar-for-dollar Luxury tax will also take effect at the halfway point between the lowest salary floor and the highest salary cap (slated to be $29 million for the first year of the deal). Details about what will be done with this money have not been completely worked out, but it is thought that this money will be distributed to teams below the halfway point in such a way as to make sure they remain above the salary hard minimum.

While this is one of the most contentious issues in the labor dispute, there are several other issues that may delay the signing of a new Collective Bargaining Agreement. These include deciding how high-payroll teams will drop to the new maximum, working on new systems for salary arbitration, free agency, Olympic participation, and drug testing, and to design a complete revenue-sharing system.

Candidates make campaign stop at trade fairs ahead of 2008 Taiwan Presidential Election

Friday, November 9, 2007

Thursday, November 8, two trade shows, named MEDIPHAR Taipei at the Taipei World Trade Center (TWTC) and Taipei Audio Video Fair at the TWTC and The Grand Hotel, opened in Taipei, Taiwan. Some politicians and government officials chose these events as an opportunity to promote their parties and campaign-coalitions ahead of the 2008 Taiwan Presidential Elections.

From the incumbent Pan-Green Coalition, President of the Republic of China Chen Shui-bian, Premier of Republic of China Chang Chun-hsiung, and spokesman for the Executive Yuan Jung-tai Cho visited the two shows successively and were innundated by Taiwanese media. President Chen avoided answering questions on the hot topic of commodities prices, addressing only those about the medical industry development, overseen by Sheng-mao Hou, Minister of Health.

From the Pan-Blue Coalition, 2008 vice-presidential candidate, and former Premier, Vincent Siew participated the opening of the Taipei Audio Video Fair at The Grand Hotel. He criticized on the economy policy and remarked: “The ruling party [DPP] doesn’t have a good track record, and some industries weren’t be supported in timely manner so that they lost some opportunities. I sincerely hope the government can appropriately assist the audio and video industries in marketing good brands and products to the world.”

Also, current Democratic Progressive Party legislator Wang Shih-chien was invited to give a violin performance and sing a Taiwanese song. The events at the Taipei World Trade Center proved to be quite a platform for the candidates running in the 2008 Taiwan Presidential Elections.
